Lead – a highly toxic metal

thumbnail

Lead is one of the most dangerous metals that can be found in tap water. Although it was once widely used in plumbing, paints, and industrial applications, today we know that even small amounts of the metal can have serious health effects.

🔹 How lead enters water

The most common way lead reaches our glass is through old pipes. Many homes, especially those built before 1980, still have pipes or fittings that contain lead. Over time and with corrosion, this metal leaches into drinking water.

In addition to pipes, lead can come from industrial activities, waste discharges, and even from old wells or tanks with worn internal walls.

🔹 The effects of lead on health

Lead has no biological value for the organism. On the contrary, it accumulates in the body, causing long-term poisoning.

  • In children, it affects the development of the brain, reducing memory and concentration.
  • In adults, it affects the blood pressure, the kidneys, and the nervous system.
  • Pregnant women are at particular risk, as lead can pass through the placenta to the fetus.

It is worth noting that the World Health Organization has set extremely low safety limits — practically, any detection of lead is considered undesirable.

🔹 How to protect yourself

The best prevention is the replacement of old pipes and the use of certified water filters.
The Camelot® filters, with active pharmaceutical carbon technology and multiple natural membranes, effectively bind lead, preventing its entry into drinking water.

Unlike simple filters or pitchers, the certified Camelot® filters are designed to retain heavy metals, such as lead, without removing the essential trace elements and mineral salts that the body needs.

🔹 What else can you do

If you suspect that your network contains lead:

  • Let the water run for a few seconds before using it.
  • Never drink hot water from the tap, as it dissolves metals more easily.
  • Prefer filters with NSF/ANSI 42 & 53 certifications, such as the Imperial® and Imperial® Plus.

🔹 A problem with a solution

Lead is a silent danger — it has no color, taste, or smell. However, with the right prevention and filtration technology, our exposure to it can be drastically reduced.
The Camelot® Water Systems are the sure choice for clean, healthy, and safe water, free from lead and other contaminants.

Because the water we drink must protect – not threaten – our health.
