According to the <strong>U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)<\/strong>, pollution from these substances leads to approximately <strong>6,800 new cases of cancer each year<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-which-areas-were-affected\"><strong>\ud83d\uddfa\ufe0f Which areas were affected<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The findings of the specialists revealed that cancer rates in counties of <strong>New York<\/strong> and <strong>California<\/strong> ranged from <strong>2% to 33%<\/strong>, with the group expressing concern about <strong>perfluorobutanesulfonic acid (PFBS)<\/strong>, a type of PFAS associated with <strong>oral<\/strong> and <strong>throat cancer<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-who-is-most-affected-by-pfas\"><strong>\ud83e\uddcd Who is most affected by PFAS<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As the study states:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Men in areas with high levels of PFAS showed increased cases of leukemia and cancer affecting the urinary system, the brain, and soft tissues.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Women in the same areas faced a higher percentage of thyroid cancer, oral cancer, throat cancer, and soft tissue cancer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-the-head-of-the-study-states\"><strong>\ud83d\udde3\ufe0f What the head of the study states<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These findings allow us to draw an initial conclusion regarding the relationship between certain rare cancers and PFAS,&#8221; said <strong>Siwen Sherlock Li<\/strong>, a postdoctoral researcher in the <strong>Department of Population and Public Health Sciences<\/strong> at Keck School of Medicine and the lead author of the study.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-new-regulations-and-future-actions\"><strong>\ud83e\uddea New regulations and future actions<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Li noted that starting in <strong>2029<\/strong>, the <strong>EPA<\/strong> will monitor the levels of <strong>six types of PFAS<\/strong> in drinking water, but left open the possibility that <strong>stricter limits<\/strong> may be needed to protect public health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some PFAS that have been studied less need to be monitored more, and regulatory authorities should consider other PFAS that may not have been thoroughly tested yet,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-where-else-are-pfas-found-in-everyday-life\">\ud83e\uddf4 Where exposed<\/strong> to harmful substances, and even <strong>small amounts<\/strong> of these can enter the body, leading to <strong>potential long-term effects<\/strong> on health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p
