The danger of plastic bottles and, more specifically, the quality of the water in them. Scientists are sounding the alarm about avoiding the use of plastic bottles, especially by pregnant women, as research shows that microplastics<\/a>, in addition to the placenta, can end up in the organs of the fetus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Experts recommend drinking water only from glass or metal bottles due to growing concerns that tiny plastic particles may harm our health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Luisa Campagnolo, a specialist in histology and embryology at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, warns that there is evidence that micro- and nanoplastics are ending up in human tissues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Previous studies have shown that microscopic particles – a byproduct of plastic degradation – can end up in the human bloodstream and even reach the placenta. Additionally, plastic particles that enter human tissues can affect the production of certain hormones and, consequently, certain biological processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now a new study in mice presented at the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science shows that ingested plastic can end up in fetal organs.
The single-use plastic bottles we use can release residues, especially when exposed to sunlight, and according to Dr. Campagnolo, we should not drink bottled water from them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I think we should avoid using any single-use plastic that comes into contact with food, such as plastic containers in the microwave. We should return to glass. Dr. Philippos Dimokritos, a specialist in nanoscience and environmental engineering at Rutgers University in New Jersey, said that recent findings from animal studies are “very concerning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With this research, the danger posed by plastic bottles and any plastic device is highlighted. In fact, his study on mice, published last month in the journal Nanomaterials, is the first evidence that ingested plastic can pass into the fetus. “We detect these micro and nanoplastics in the placenta 24 hours later, after passing through the stomachs of pregnant animals,” he said. “Most importantly, we found them in every organ of the fetus, suggesting potential developmental impacts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Petroleum-based plastics are not biodegradable, but weather conditions and photo-oxidation break them into microscopic fragments. These microscopic fragments, known as micro-nanoplastics, have been detected in human lungs, placentas, and blood, raising concerns about human health,” said Dimokritos to the Daily Mail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
